In 1994 I attended a Great American Photography Weekend workshop and saw all of the wonderful equipment that others were using. I was still using a totally manual SLR system that I bought in 1975, so I thought that it was time to upgrade. I priced Nikon first, specifically the N8008, but it was out of my price range. Then I read about the Sigma SA-300 in Outdoor Photographer magazine. It had all of the features that I was looking for, and I could get the body and a 28-200mm lens for much less than the price of the N8008 body alone, so I made the plunge and never looked back.
