photos of paintings behind glasses

I want to photograph paintings that are framed behind glass. Any suggestions on the use of polarizers to eliminate reflections and techniques for lighting the artwork would be appreciated.

What I have done to do this is use a completely darkened room (so you or the camera doesn't reflect off the glass) and shoot directly at 90 degrees from the art. Then illuminate the art with two lights held at 45 degrees from the art work....one on each side. Be sure to color correct for the lights and film used. A tripod is helpful. and use manual focus.

I agree with David.

For copying art work, I was told to use tungsten light with tungsten film for better depth, as flash duration is too short. Never try it myself. Any comments?
