This is the corner of Washington St. & Wacker Dr., Chicago, IL. Third photo of a bracketed set (overexposed by 2 stops) taken with my Contax G1 and Planar 45mm, at f8 on Kodak T400CN film.

    Jeeze, it's not THAT bad of a shot. This is a "Beginners Corner", therefore warrants the time to assist if we can.

    This image needs a little more snap to the contrast which isn't easy, given the wide range of tones present in the scene. Also you may want to try and crop a bit off the top. If you have PhotoShop try just clicking on the Auto Adjust contrast.

    Auto adjust??? eeeep, can we say histogram murder?? Anyway, I would suggest starting in levels, on either side or one side, likely the hilights, of the profile will be an empty space on the histogram. Pull it to where is meets the first rise of the first peak and it should give you a good starting place. From there you can push the curves around until you get a good balance. Black and white is funny, unlike color it's easy to get a passible image. But it's easier to get an excelent color image t
